This transport truck service facility uses solar heated water for the wash bay and to assist a horizontal ground source heat pump system. The solar array consists of 24 Thermo Dynamics glazed flat plate solar collectors with a total area of 66 meters squared. Inside the facility the solar heated water is stored in a series if storage tanks that also utilize a natural gas fired heater to ensure constant temperature water. The installation has been a success as during sunny days the wash bay is able to operate on the solar heaters alone as the heat provided by the solar collectors is enough to raise the temperature of the incoming cold water from approximately 8°C to 60°C at a rate of 13 liters per minute continuous flow rate.
