Campus Domestic Hot Water Back-Up System – SAIT

This project involved the installation of a new backup DHW system for the campus tunnel steam distribution system (8 buildings) to allow for maintenance of the existing steam system through the tunnels. The project requires careful coordination with the central plant systems and operators for the installation of a new steam to DHW heat exchanger and pump skid package, verification of over 3.6 km of pipe routing through the tunnel system as SAIT as well as verification of the existing DHW generation systems in 9 separate buildings at campus.  The overall scope of work involved confirming the work of the other mechanical engineering companies and ensuring that the new central plant equipment was able to meet the demands of this temporary system to allow SAIT to shut down their existing central plant for annual maintenance.

This new piping system required the installation and coordination of new controls and piping in each of the buildings affected to ensure uninterrupted DHW supply year-round while the new work is being carried out.

REG acted as the prime consultant coordinating the work of other mechanical engineers, electrical and structural consultants to deliver the final package to SAIT for tender and construction.
