Coldstream Community Hall & Childcare Centre
Reinbold Engineering provided mechanical design services for the new 14,000 ft² Coldstream Community Hall & Childcare Centre, a multi-use civic facility that combines a banquet hall, commercial kitchen, and an 84-seat licensed childcare centre.
The design addressed the distinct needs of assembly and childcare spaces by delivering reliable comfort, healthy indoor air quality, and operational efficiency. High-efficiency heat pumps provide heating and cooling, with individually zoned control in each classroom to support occupant comfort and flexibility. An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) system delivers continuous fresh air while capturing heat from exhaust air, improving indoor air quality and reducing energy demand, an important consideration for childcare environments.
The attached childcare centre includes multiple rooms and an outdoor play area, requiring careful coordination of ventilation, acoustics, and thermal control to create a safe and comfortable environment for young occupants.
Sustainability was a key project driver. The mechanical design met the project’s LEED targets and achieved energy performance 23% better than the LEED reference case, helping the District of Coldstream reduce long-term operating costs while supporting broader environmental goals. The project was made possible through combined provincial and federal funding, resulting in a modern, efficient facility that serves the evolving needs of the community.
