The Historic Laurel Packinghouse, a nationally designated heritage landmark and the oldest and largest surviving packinghouse in British Columbia, underwent a significant restoration to preserve its cultural and agricultural heritage while modernizing critical building infrastructure. Home to the B.C. Orchard Industry Museum, B.C. Wine Museum, and VQA Wine Shop, the project revitalized the 93-year-old facility while maintaining its historical character and community significance.

Reinbold Engineering Group provided mechanical engineering services for the restoration and building systems upgrades, including the design of new heating, cooling, ventilation, and plumbing systems. The mechanical design incorporated an energy-efficient heat pump system serving distributed fan coil units, allowing energy sharing throughout the facility while improving occupant comfort, operational performance, and long-term energy efficiency. Careful integration of modern mechanical infrastructure within the heritage building supported the continued use of the facility while preserving the architectural character of one of British Columbia’s most significant historic landmarks.
