Neoma
Nemoa (Project Thrive) was a conversion of an existing 10-storey commercial office building (formerly Seirra) into a low-income housing complex and homeless shelter. This novel solution was the first office to affordable housing conversion in Calgary’s history. Neoma now provides 82 affordable housing units, 10 transitional housing units, 10 emergency family shelter spaces, a childcare centre and programming space. Neoma provides support for vulnerable populations including low-income families and individuals such as seniors, adults with disabilities, Indigenous people, and newcomers to Canada, creating a tangible difference in the quality of life for residents and helping move families to independence.
The original obsolete mechanical systems were replaced with high efficiency condensing boilers, low temperature baseboards, dedicated ERVs, and high-rise smoke management systems.
Art Smith Project Award: Award by the Calgary Homeless Foundation recognizing exceptional collaboration in transforming a vacant commercial building into a thriving multi-family housing hub.
Mayor’s Urban Design Awards (MUDA): Honourable Mention in the highly competitive Housing Innovation category for their work on Neoma.
