URC Dynamic Imaging Library

Renovation in the University Research Centre existing space 2E-041; the area used to be a shell space for the “bitumen sample storage facility for Imperial Oil”. In early 2019 University of Calgary geoscience research program “The Dynamic Imaging Laboratory” require moving to new facility due to their expansion; Dynamic imaging lab is a high-tech laboratory which use high resolution microscope and medical type CT scan equipment’s to study and research of geological samples such as bitumen core and samples.

These high-tech units require special HVAC environment with specific noise level. Due to the nature of the project and age/ capacity of the existing “University Research Centre (URC)” a new mechanical HVAC system including air handling; cooling and exhaust fan were required to be design/ installed. In addition, the level of the noise/ vibration control within the space was a critical factor which needed to be accounted in all phases of the project.

Our team approach to all these requirements by studying the nature of the research and understanding various elements and requirements and by working directly with the research team leader which resulted with a system which not only met U of C requirements but also exceed the expectation the research team.
